Jana Sena party president Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday demanded that the Chandrababu Naidu government find a solution to the Uddanam kidney disease within 48 hours failing which he would launch a day-long hunger strike. The kidney patients met Mr. Pawan at Palasa and poured out their woes. He said the Naidu government was not interested in solving people’s problems and it was focused only on their votes. He said the Uddanam problem was taken to the notice of the government but it had failed to respond to the situation.

The Jana Sena leader said it was unfortunate that the State did not have a Health Minister which had made things worse as there was nobody to approach on health issues. How could the government remain unmoved by such a serious disease that had engulfed a large population, he wondered. He said experts recommended setting up of dialysis centres but the government had washed its hands off by starting only three centres and failed to set up a blood bank.Criticising the government for its “failure to provide even drinking water to the villagers”, he said the State was insensitive to the series of deaths of young children due to the ailment.

He said the issue was taken to the notice of both the State and the Central governments. But it was of no use since there was no coordination between the two.
